I Just Bought A Used Car Now What: Advice and Tips

What I would do next is to take a couple long road trips in the car or truck you just bought. Notice everything that you experienced on your road trips and write them down. You would want to notice things like how the car drives and how it feels going over bumps. Monitor how the steering wheel and remember how it feels while braking and turning corners. Also see how the brakes feel to you at high and low speeds. Keep in mind that brake repairs can be very costly.
Notice any irregular noises such as the engine and the transmission noises. Make sure that when you first start the car up in the morning there are no internal engine noises. These type of notices can lead to expensive repairs later on down the road. One more thing to check when starting the car up, notice if you see any smoke coming out of your tail pipe. This could mean that you have leaking valve guide seals which again can lead to costly repairs.
And finally have the car or truck inspected by an ASE certified technician. Have him or her give the car a good looking over and have them write down what ever they find. Take your notes and the technicians report and revisit your used car lot. He may refund some of the money involved in getting the car fixed up for you. This will also save you some head aches later down the road if you have to take the car lot guy to court.
Look for leaks of any kind after your road trips. Look underneath your car for transmission or engine oil leaks. These leaks will start small and will get worse over time. Other leaks to look for would be the radiator and your power steering fluid.
So as you can see you still have time to check the car or truck you just bought and return it to the car lot guy within the thirty day limit. The lemon law can be found at, “car lemon .com.“

Top Engine Performance Out Of An Ordinary Car! Peak Power!

1. Replace all of your spark plugs after 2 years or 30,000 miles. I recommend changing your spark plugs with the manufacturers recommendations. Almost all manufacturers use the Platinum spark plug because they are built to last for a long time. The older spark plugs only lasted 12 months or 12,000 miles without being inspected or replaced. The electrodes would burn down increasing the gap for the spark to jump.
2. Replace your gas filter every 12,000 miles.- Most fuel filters are in line. This means if you follow the fuel line from the gas tank all the way up to the intake manifold, you will find the fuel filter located in this area. Most cars carry a 35 to 45 PSI pounds of fuel pressure through this filter. Any restriction by a few pounds will drop your power and performance output considerately. (means having to press the gas pedal more)
3. Replace your oxygen sensors every 60,000 miles.- The o2 sensors monitor and read the amount of oxygen content coming from your engine. Then in return they tell the computer how to adjust your injectors to compensate for the readings. Slow or sluggish 02 sensors will not respond to the changes as quickly as they need to be compared to new ones.
4. Clean Your Fuel Injection System every 12.000 miles.- A lot of automotive shops offer this type of service to the customer. What this usually includes is, cleaning your injectors with a very strong additive, cleaning up and around your throttle plate area, and cleaning your intake manifold with compressed air and a very strong cleaning agent. You would be surprised to see how much carbon, tar, and varnish is clinging to your fuel system walls and throttle plate. This carbon build up will actually absorb the air and fuel mixtures from entering your engine.
5. If Equipped, Change Your Timing Belt Every 60 to 90,000 miles.- Your timing belt is usually overlooked because you can not visually see the condition it is in. A worn and stretched timing belt will also rob your engine of the power it needs. After 60.000 miles the belt begins to crack and starts to actually stretch like a worn rubber band. The timing of your camshaft to your crankshaft will not be as good as when the belt was new.
The Diagnostics of a Troubled Car: Repair Tips 101
Have you ever been driving your car and all of a sudden it starts to run bad? It may hesitate and become hard to start? The next thing that happens is your check engine light begins to flash on and off. One answer is maybe your car needs a tune-up. Or it could also mean that you have just suffered some internal engine damage. One thing that we do know for sure is you should have your car inspected by a certified repair professional.
The first thing you need to do is either make an appointment or drive right in to your favorite auto repair shop. Ask for an “engine diagnostics” first before you ask for something else like a tune-up. Most people hope and pray that a tune-up will fix their problem and then get upset when you tell them it will not.
For instance they could be told that a valve spring is broken and the engine will have to be disassembled and then reassembled to fix the problem. Of course this is very bad news for them. But then again on the other side they could also be advised that a bad spark plug wire is causing all of these problems and the cost is very minimal.
After the diagnostics has been performed you could then make your decision on what to do. If you still want a tune-up then this would be the time to ask for one. Now you know the problem will be fixed and your car will be tuned up at the same time.
You will have to remember that problems will suddenly arise and you should have it checked out before it gets any worse. The bad sparkplug wire is an example of how a car problem can come out of any where and show up at any place.
Another example could be a leaking valve guide seal suddenly giving up and letting oil get inside the combustion chamber. This in turn will cause a spark plug to foul and not be able to produce a spark. Your engine will run bad and cause all of those previous symptoms too. In this case the engine heads will have to be pulled and rebuilt with new valve guide seals.
The point I am trying to make is for you to seek an honest repair shop and get your car diagnosed and find out what the real problem is first. Then if you think you need a tune-up then by all means ask for one then. You do not want to wait until something goes wrong with your car all of a sudden and then take it in for a tune-up. This will save a lot of confusion between you and your auto mechanic.
